A 6-day media visit kicked off in Changsha, Hunan province on Oct. 10, 2019 to showcase how China's river chief system has been progressing since its nationwide roll-out in 2018. Dozens of reporters from different media outlets across China attended the event.

The river chief system, first launched in December 2016, aims to enhance water resource protection, shoreline management and ecological restoration.

River chiefs are responsible for resource protection, pollution prevention and control, and ecological restoration. They will be held accountable for any environmental damage in bodies of water under their supervision.

The media visit will focus on the local implementation of the river chief system and display the progress made in ecological restoration. It will also highlight how people are benefitting from the system and showcase environmental improvements.

Besides Changsha, journalists from Chinese mainstream media will also visit other areas such as Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, and Putian, Fujian province.

The six-day event is organized by the News and Communications Bureau of the Cyberspace Administration of China, and the General Office of the Ministry of Water Resources. It is supported by the governments of Changsha, Shaoxing and Putian and is promoted by China.org.cn.
