Hosted by Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (BAAI), the BAAI Conference recently gathered more than 100 leading AI experts and scholars in Beijing to discuss the latest development of artificial intelligence, its applications, and its integrations in industries. As a national AI hub, Beijing is home to over 1,000 AI enterprises, accounting for nearly 30% of the country and pooling nearly 60% of its AI talents.

The BAAI Conference is designed to be a signature academic event of Beijing. It aims to build an "academic calling card" for Beijing and China regarding the development of AI, and to expand the global influence of Beijing's AI development.

BAAI was established in November 2018 under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Beijing municipal government, with joint efforts by the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Haidian district government. Relying on leading AI institutions and companies in Beijing such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and leading companies such as Baidu, BAAI supports scientists in AI research, machine learning, natural language understanding, data collection and mining, intelligent architecture and chips, etc.

Nine professional forums on implementing AI applications such as natural language processing, brain science, and autopilot were held during the BAAI Conference with leading AI experts from both China and the world sharing their contemplations on these frontier areas. An AI experience zone was set up at the conference site where leading AI companies like Baidu, JD.com, Megvii, and Cambricon displayed their cutting-edge technologies, products, and applications.

BAAI also unveiled its Data Research Center on the opening day of the conference. The center is aimed at promoting the sharing of industry data and support fundamental research of AI and the development of key AI technologies.
