In an environmental protection activity jointly organized by Sungang, Pengxing and Hujing communities of Luohu district Nov. 16-17, more than 70 families collected about 200 kilograms of rubbish on the beach of Jiaochangwei in the Dapeng new zone.

The activity is one of more than 6,000 projects Shenzhen municipal government has vowed to carry out this year to improve its public services.

These projects concern almost every aspect of people's life, and the to-do list was settled by the city's legislature according to the government's work report earlier this year.

Further improving social governance, an important content of overall State governance, is a crucial task for the city in its efforts to develop a pilot demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics, as well as a contribution to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, both national-level development initiatives with strategic importance.

The city government is paying the greatest attention to better fulfilling its obligations of providing basic social services, particularly to disadvantaged groups through these projects, according to Liao Yuanfei, chief of the civil affairs bureau of Shenzhen.

The Shenzhen government started launching the to-do list model from 2015, and it is estimated that about 50,000 projects meeting the people's practical concerns and immediate interests have been accomplished since then, involving municipal government investment of nearly 5 billion yuan.

Government at various levels in the city, especially grassroots branches, such as sub-district offices or community neighborhood committees, have become more responsive to people's appeals, and more efficient in addressing residents' problems through participation in the projects.

The Luohu district government is channeling more resources to the upgrading and renovation of infrastructure of its old communities and urban areas, and is actively promoting development of community organizations, heeding residents' views so as to make its public services more pertinent to the public's practical needs.

Liao said the government can boost the people's sense of gain through helping them resolve their small, urgent and difficult problems one by one, adding that Shenzhen should apply a higher standard while enhancing its public services and social governance.

It is hoped the public will take full part in the endeavors to promote their own livelihoods together, and actively engage in the social governance so that they can share the development achievements, and improve their lives, Liao added.
