Luohu Industry and Information Technology Bureau and Shenzhen Jewelry Museum introduced the Shuibei gold and jewelry base in the district government's biweekly news conference on Dec. 20.

Afterwards, a jewelry forum involving experts, scholars and entrepreneurs was held focusing on industry development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

After 40 years’ development, the Shuibei base has become a national brand building demonstration zone, and a national demonstration project for developing regional industrial aggregations.

With more than 8,900 enterprises, Shuibei now accounts for 50 percent of the national gold and jewelry wholesale market.

It has also founded the first national-level jewelry industry index, developed 25 industrial standards, and established a comprehensive service center for intellectual property rights of China’s jewelry industry.

The Shenzhen Jewelry Museum, the first of its kind, was built through a public-private partnership. It covers an area of 2,610 square meters.

According to Zhou Jianjun, director of Luohu Industry and Information Technology Bureau, the district government has approved 15 urban renovation projects in Shuibei, and after they are completed the jewelry base will have broader development space.

Zhou said the government intends to make Shuibei’s development experience a model for promotion of other bases for smart manufacturing, brand building, market expansion, talent cultivation and intellectual property rights protection, internationalization, industrial chain enhancement and environmental optimization.

The government plans to build Luohu into a headquarters base, and a center of design, research and development, smart manufacturing, branding operation and exhibition and trade.
