Construction of the first phase of the Universal Beijing Resort in the Chinese capital is now underway, and the theme park is expected to open in 2021, Beijing Daily reported.

The entertainment complex, located in eastern Beijing's sub-center, covers 4 square kilometers and will consist of a theme park, a Universal City Walk shopping and dining area, and two hotels. The park will feature seven themed parts, including Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Transformers: Metrobase, Minion Land, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, Hollywood, and WaterWorld.

The seven themed lands will present over 20 attractions that reflect China's rich cultural heritage, and are larger in scale compared with Universal Studio theme parks in other parts of the world, according to Tom Mehrmann, president of Universal Beijing Resort.

The first phase of the resort construction is expected to complete by the end of 2020. Mehrmann said the tickets, packages, and prices of the Beijing park will be announced at that time.

The resort is expected to create 14,000 jobs after it goes into operation.

Beijing is working on connecting its transportation network to the park, linking transit lines between the resort and the Capital International Airport and the Daxing International Airport, as well as building two metro lines and a metro station.

The resort will also have easy access to highways and provide a big number of parking spaces and charging stations for electric vehicles.
