To improve the environment for local consumers and boost consumption, the Luohu district government has been trying its best to protect consumers' legal rights and interests.
Luohu was the first district founded in Shenzhen, and is known as the cradle of the city's business and commerce because of its closeness to Hong Kong and good business environment.
The Consumers Association of Luohu is obliged to raise the public's awareness, monitor business practitioners and handle consumers' complaints, in a bid to build the district into an international consumption center.
Statistics show that the association received more than 5,800 complaints from consumers last year, an increase of 7.4 percent from the earlier year. 98 percent of the complaints have been settled, which helped consumers recover a total of 31.87 million yuan ($4.64 million).
The association also works together with local business and market supervisory watchdogs to carry out random and regular surveys and tests on the quality of various commodities. In particular, they conduct checks on food, clothes as well as mother and baby products that directly impact the people's health.
