A number of key construction projects in Beijing have resumed work in recent days despite the outbreak, aiming to meet their targets while implementing stringent epidemic prevention measures.

This year, the construction of Beijing Daxing International Airport Economic Zone is in full swing. As major parts of the construction, the building of comprehensive bonded area will be completed before this year, and a service center for headquarters of international aviation companies will also be established.

Cao Hui, the manager of the construction project, said that project workers have adopted flexible working arrangements and hosted regular meetings online, adding that the workers are committed to pushing forward the construction during the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The north extension of Beijing subway Fangshan line is set to open before the end of the year. And as planned, the building of the main body of the subway station should be finished before early April. Some construction workers chose to stay at the construction site during the Spring Festival, and other workers have also returned to work amid the outbreak, according to the person in charge of the construction site.

At the construction site of the China National Convention Centre Phase Two, workers are wearing face masks. Other epidemic control efforts include online registration of health status, strict management of the construction site, and spraying disinfectant in public areas. In addition, to minimize the risks of infection, only 20% of all the workers resumed work.

Other major projects, including Universal Beijing Resort and western part of the Beijing subway line 11 in Shijingshan district, have also resumed construction.

Beijing has made all-out efforts in combating the novel coronavirus, and at the same time working to reach the goals of social and economic development in 2020, according to the city’s latest press conference on the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus. The goals include high-quality development, poverty alleviation, coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, construction of Beijing’s sub-center, and preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
