More than 300 businesses in retail, e-commerce, dining, delivery, and other sectors began issuing coupons to Beijing residents on Wednesday. The move is part of a campaign to stimulate online consumer activity initiated by the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau.
The commerce bureau has been promoting online shopping, recruiting over 300 vendors to join in a month-long, livestreaming session that entices spectators to spend. The campaign features online spending activities with products and goods helping people to dine, keep healthy, and spend quality time with their children at home.
The Beijing branch of online retailer Suning is handing out 30 million yuan (US$4.23 million) worth of coupons until March 31, during which consumers can receive through the company's WeChat and Weibo pages. Gome, another Chinese consumer electronics retailer, is offering vouchers equivalent to 120 million yuan for home appliance purchases from March 19 to April 17.
The campaign will also facilitate the online sales of farming products from Beijing's paired-up poverty-stricken provinces and regions, such as Heibei province and Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
