The management committee of Beijing's sub-center in the city's eastern district of Tongzhou will begin to exercise part of the municipal administrative power starting from April 14, government officials announced on Tuesday.
The administrative power mainly covers aspects including development and reform, planning of natural resources, and urban and rural development, and mainly involves city-level approvals related to planning, land, construction, and investment projects, in a bid to accelerate the implementation of construction projects, according to Zhao Lei, head of the management committee and head of Tongzhou district.
Authorities on urban governance, administrative inspection and penalty are still assumed by the original municipal government departments, Zhao said.
The power will be exercised within the planning and peripheral areas of the sub-center (excluding the Tongzhou part of Yizhuang new town), which take up about 812 square kilometers.
The empowerment would streamline the examination and approval procedures and improve administrative efficiency, Zhao said.
