Shanghai tightens quarantine rules for border entries

Shanghai municipality has tightened quarantine measures for inbound passengers to deal with the rising trend of imported coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

In accordance with a new regulation announced Thursday, all ordinary inbound personnel will be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival, while the entry of diplomatic personnel and those engage in important economic activities and trade, scientific research and technical cooperation is subject to another provision.

The new regulation took effect at 6 p.m. Thursday, said a source of the Information Office of Shanghai Municipal Government.

Shanghai has also required all international arrivals to undergo nucleic acid testing to screen for coronavirus since Monday.

Shanghai reported 18 newly confirmed imported COVID-19 cases Wednesday, bringing the city's tally of imported cases to 112.
