Heavy rains in recent days have prompted the Luohu district government to strengthen its flood control and prevention work. The government organized a training session on the operation of some rescue equipment June 9-10 to improve the response ability of emergency rescue teams.

Representatives of all sub-district offices, the water conservancy bureau, district fire brigade and the forest fire prevention and control department took part.

In the activity, the trainees learned how to use a rubber dinghy and operate a water pump, outboard motor and chain saw.

Torrential rain hitting Shenzhen June 9-10 was the heaviest monsoon rainfall in the city for nearly a decade.

Before and during the rain, Luohu was mobilizing all related bodies to check the safety of the area where old houses are located in, and all places prone to waterlogging and rain-related accidents such as construction sites.

The Luohu government plans to host such training every year to improve relevant personnel's emergency handling ability, and ensure public security in the rainy season.
