China Daily:

Medical workers from across the country have been sent to Beijing recently to help conduct nucleic acid tests, and more testing equipment is being transported to the capital. For these medical teams, what are their major tasks in Beijing? Why have they been sent here? Thank you.

Guo Yanhong:

Thank you. We have mobilized some nucleic acid testing teams from 12 provinces to help substantially improve Beijing's testing capacity rapidly, and meet the demands of the public and the infected people for tests. It is also a measure adopted to implement the requirements of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council. A total of 20 nucleic acid testing teams from 12 provinces have been sent to Beijing in two batches, and they will work in eight hospitals affiliated to the National Health Commission and 12 other hospitals in Beijing. There are 215 testing personnel in the first batch and 201 in the second. They also brought with them more than 90 sets of nucleic acid testing equipment. It means each of the aforementioned hospitals will get about four or five extra pieces of testing equipment, which will greatly improve Beijing's testing capacity in a very short space of time.

The first group of the testing team arrived in Beijing on June 20, and there is now a total of 10 such teams that have begun their mission in 10 city hospitals, increasing their daily testing capacity to 58,000. Moreover, the 10 testing teams of the second batch have also arrived at their target hospitals, and will get start their work in the coming one or two days. I would like to stress that Hubei province has sent teams from Tongji Hospital and Wuhan Union Hospital, both being affiliated to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. Back in February and March, Beijing sent its own medical teams to support Wuhan, and, now, here we are in June, and Wuhan medical personnel have come to Beijing, which shows how all medical workers are working together to fight the pandemic for the sake of the people. It also shows our system's advantages, which enable us to pool resources for major undertakings, as well as our highly efficient mobilization and coordination capabilities.

Thank you.
