A mobile laboratory for conducting COVID-19 tests was installed in Zhongguancun Life Science Park in Beijing recently, according to a nucleic acid testing agency at the park.

The lab has a total area of 81 square meters including 54 square meters for conducting tests, and it allows testing of over 10,000 samples daily, the agency said.

Composed of three prefabricated containers, the lab was installed within one day, and has passed the examination of China's National Health Commission. It is equipped with various types of necessary medical equipment, and it has set up a disinfection and sterilization room, as well as an amplification and analysis room.

The lab was constructed according to Biosafety Level 2. First-class protective clothing, N95 masks, and other personal protective equipment in the lab meet Biosafety Level 3.

The containers can be used for up to 50 years, adapt to temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius and as high as 45 degrees Celsius, and maintain a stable internal pressure at an altitude of 5,000 meters, according to the constructor.

Now, the constructor is planning to upgrade the lab so as to increase its daily testing capacity to 20,000 samples. It would also be equipped with solar power generator and energy storage system, allowing it to be operated in the field without connecting to the power grid.

In the following three months, more than 50 such labs will be installed in key areas across China to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
