The Communist Party of China (CPC) and major Philippine political parties established a China-Philippines political parties Belt and Road consultation mechanism on June 30, and held their first meeting in the form of an online conference on the same day.

The meeting passed a joint proposal on supporting high-quality construction of the Belt and Road.

Song Tao, minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC (IDCPC), and leaders of Philippines' major political parties including Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, Nacionalista Party, Nationalist People's Coalition and Partylist Coalition Foundation Inc. delivered speeches at the meeting.

Song said China and the Philippines were friendly neighbors, who were now fighting together against the COVID-19 pandemic, showing their mutual assistance brotherhood.

Not long ago, President Xi Jinping talked by phone with his Philippines counterpart Rodrigo Duterte, and they reached an important consensus on deepening the bilateral traditional friendship, strengthening pandemic control cooperation and resuming economic and social development, Song said.

He described the current meeting as one designed to implement this consensus, and explore how to bring into greater play the role of the political parties in promoting bilateral relationship.

The two countries were important partners in the construction of the Belt and Road. In the new circumstances, political parties of the two countries should strengthen their exchanges on their governance and developmental experiences, advance the dovetailing of bilateral development strategies and the interconnectivity of their infrastructural facilities.

They should uphold the concept of wide consultation, joint construction and sharing benefits, push Belt and Road cooperation to a higher level and seek to yield more fruits through deepening inter-party exchanges, maintain regional and global stability and development, and bring more tangible benefits to the people of the two countries, Song stressed.

The leaders of the parties from the Philippines offered congratulations on the 99th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. They spoke highly of the remarkable economic and social development achievement China had made under the leadership of the CPC.

They appreciated China's assistance to the Philippines in the fight against Covid-19. They said the progress of bilateral relations would emerge along with the deepening of political mutual trust, and productive cooperation in many fields.

The post-pandemic era offered opportunities to strengthen Belt and Road cooperation as an important step in promoting a global economic recovery. Political parties in the Philippines looked forward to strengthening mutual learning with the CPC in the area of governance and promoting cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative so as to advance the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation to higher level, and jointly build the community of shared future for all humanity.

The Philippines firmly supported the one-China principle, opposed certain countries smearing China by politicizing the outbreak of the pandemic, and oppose any interference with China's internal affairs in Hong Kong and the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
