A natural gas treatment station in Akemomu Gasfield has started operations on the Pamir Plateau, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, providing more natural gas for southern Xinjiang.

Construction on the gasfield started in August last year. The amount of natural gas that the gasfield provides for locals is expected to increase from 1.3 million cubic metres to 3 million cubic metres per day once construction is complete at the end of this year.

Two booster stations in Aksu Prefecture and Kashgar Prefecture were also built to enhance gas supply for southern Xinjiang.

Akemomu Gasfield is a branch of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield Company. The construction is part of a project that transports gas from Tarim Oilfield to southern Xinjiang, helping ease gas shortages there, especially in winter.

The project's main gas pipeline was put into operation in 2013, with a length of more than 3,000 km, benefiting over 4 million people in southern Xinjiang.

Currently, Tarim Oilfield can send about 3.94 billion cubic meters of natural gas every year to almost all counties in southern Xinjiang.
