More than 11 million people in Beijing have been given nucleic acid tests since the resurgence of domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases in June, local authorities said on Monday.

As the epidemic situation eases, local authorities have lifted the lockdown of 54 residential communities in districts including Xicheng, Haidian, and Fengtai, said Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Beijing center for disease control and prevention, during the city's regular press conference.

For people who visited the beef and mutton trading hall at Xinfadi market and people who lived with them-totaling 74,000-they had been given nucleic acid tests for a third time. And for those who have tested negative and shown no symptoms of COVID-19, they can stop home-based quarantine and observation, Pang said.

Pang said the city is still faced with COVID-19 risks and should continue to be on alert.
