Seeking a New Horizon

In August 2019, the third first secretary dispatched by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Su Zuhui, arrived in Dong Antaizhuang village, Xingtang county.

When Su arrived, the village had just been lifted out of poverty. But as General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized, removal from the poverty list does not mean the end of poverty relief efforts, and continued favorable policies, subsidies and financial support as well as supervision should be put in place to ensure further development of the areas concerned.

Therefore, Su has helped to build the village into a city-level rural vitalization demonstration zone, and helped the village develop its own apple business and its industry of planting and drying of yellow chrysanthemum. He has led the villagers in consolidating and building on the results of the fight against poverty, and pushing forward continued development of rural undertakings.

There are tens of thousands of first Party secretaries just like the three in these stories across China. They are practitioners of Xi Jinping's thinking on targeted poverty alleviation. By passing on the baton of poverty alleviation efforts, they have made significant contributions to the mission.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the country's poverty-stricken population has decreased by more than 90 million. The poverty rate has dropped from 10.2% in 2012 to 0.6% today, laying a solid foundation for the final and total victory in the fight against poverty.
