China has issued a guideline to speed up domestic tourism recovery before the upcoming National Day holiday.

Tourism authorities across the country are asked to increase the supply of tourism products and improve travel-related services to better prepare for the traditionally lucrative holiday, according to the guideline by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Even though the COVID-19 epidemic is winding down in the country, local authorities are asked to ensure that scenic spots use ticket reservation systems that impose daily caps on visitor numbers and enforce staggered admission, said the ministry.

Local authorities should also make sure that travel agencies and online tourism companies strictly enforce epidemic containment measures in vehicles, hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, and tourist attractions.

The guideline also urged operators of hotels and tourist destinations to curb food waste during the holiday.

China celebrates its National Day on Oct. 1. This year will see the Mid-Autumn Festival fall on the same day, overlapping with the week-long National Day holiday and thus extending the holiday to eight days until Oct. 8.
