An area surrounding Shenzhen People's Hospital in Luohu will be upgraded in the forthcoming round of urban renovation, according to Luohu district government.

On the morning of Sept. 12, a contract signing ceremony was held for residents of the neighborhood at the Party school of the Cuizhu sub-district office of Luohu. Only after all residents signed contracts with the government, the regular developer, could the project be carried out.

"We all hope urban renovation projects in the neighborhood of the hospital can win the support of local residents as soon as possible. This government-led urban area upgrading is a good thing for all," said a local resident surnamed Suo, who came to sign a contract along with her neighbors.

Chen Longxing, deputy head of the Luohu district government, Yuan Liang, an official with the Cuizhu sub-district office, Ding Yibin, president of Luohu Investment Holding Inc, and senior executives of Yitong land and real estate consulting company took part in the ceremony.

This project will be the first large government-led urban renovation project in Shenzhen, involving 36,804 square meters to be demolished, involving 621 families.

As an old neighborhood, the infrastructural facilities of the area is backward; fire and security protection facilities are underdeveloped; the limited number of parking sites falls short of current demand; the living environment is deemed to be comparatively poor. These problems also restricting further development of the hospital to some extent.

Before the contract signing ceremony, the government and the participating enterprises have held 16 meetings to seek expert advice and consult local residents to ensure it could win total support.

The government also set up seven work teams made up of a total of 66 civil servants to collect residents' views so their needs could be better reflected in the final plan.

Not only will the infrastructural facilities be modernized and the living environment improved, but also more land will be saved allowing more than 1,000 parking spaces to be built.

There will also be a community health service center and a senior citizen nursery center established in the modernized neighborhood.
