An industrial park focusing on space science and technology will be built in Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province, local authorities announced.

With an investment of 18 billion yuan (about 2.7 billion U.S. dollars), the space-themed park will be constructed in Luhe District and is scheduled to open to the public in 2022, according to the authorities.

As the first of its kind in Jiangsu, the park will feature a science and technology innovation center for the aerospace industry, a national science education base and an international innovation zone.

It will integrate advanced elements of lunar exploration and aviation technologies into amusement projects, making the mysterious charm of space more attractive to the public, said Xu Xingli, general manager of the Beijing-based Chang'e aerospace technology company, investor of the project.

"Nanjing enjoys advantages in terms of scientific and technological talents, along with industrial foundation, and we will popularize the cutting-edge technologies among children," Xu said.
