Capital Normal University (CNU) inaugurated the Faculty of Education on Friday, an institute that integrates the university's academic resources in education and related fields.

The faculty was formed by merging CNU's four colleges dedicated to the discipline of education, namely, the College of Education, Elementary Education College, College of Preschool Education, and College of Teacher Education, according to Zheng E, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) CNU Committee.

Zheng described how CNU was established in 1954, and since then has been selected to participate in China's development plan of world-class disciplines on account of its pedagogical strengths.

Selecting a respected faculty has always been a priority for CNU to further strengthen its educational abilities and improve its management system and capacity, Zheng said at the inaugural ceremony held in Beijing.

"The faculty will make use of CNU's academic resources in education and related fields to help the university develop into a national base for teacher preparation, teacher education research, and relevant public services," Zheng said.

Song Lei, deputy director of the Department of Teacher Education of China's Ministry of Education, said the establishment of CNU's faculty is an exemplary step to improve teacher education and educational innovation nationwide.

Liu Yuhui, head of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, said that CNU is an important witness and contributor to Beijing's education development, adding, "Since it was founded in 1954, the university has cultivated more than 200,000 talents specialized in different fields and has been a significant talent-training base of Beijing and beyond."

"I hope the CNU, especially the newly established faculty of education, can further strengthen related disciplines, integrate resources, and promote institutional innovation to cultivate more high-quality education professionals," Liu continued.
