Beijing Customs introduces smart passenger health declaration platform

Beijing Customs has developed a smart passenger health declaration platform that uses a QR code generated by the passenger's health declaration to realize speedy customs clearance, announced Gao Ruifeng, deputy director of Beijing Customs, during the city's regular press conference on COVID-19 held on Monday.
Gao added that since having resumed direct international passenger flights on Sept. 3, Beijing Customs has resolutely implemented epidemic prevention and control requirements and has strived to create more efficient prevention and control measures.
As such, the smart passenger health declaration platform was developed to improve the capital's supervision capacity while also achieving smoother customs clearance. To complete their customs declaration, inbound passengers only need to make an online declaration of their health status within 24 hours before entering the country and present their unique health declaration QR code upon entry.
Gao said that if passengers failed to make an electronic declaration in advance, they could also complete it through WeChat, online, or at one of the self-service health declaration kiosks upon arrival at the airport. The new platform has not only streamlined the customs quarantine process but also greatly reduces the chance of cross-infection between passengers.
Meanwhile, Beijing Customs has expanded the capacity of its T3D prevention and control area in Beijing Capital International Airport, which greatly improves the customs clearance environment and speeds up customs clearance overall. Additionally, a P2 biosafety laboratory with new coronavirus nucleic acid testing abilities was built, boasting a daily testing capacity of 2,000 samples.
Finally, Beijing Customs matches the identity information of inbound passengers with their health information so that relevant departments responsible for on-site quarantine, tracing, and joint prevention and control can share the data and achieve closed-loop supervision.
As of Oct. 12, Beijing Customs has quarantined a total of 1,296 inbound flights, including 62 international passenger flights, 90 passenger flights from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and 1,144 cargo flights. In total, 12,223 inbound passengers have been quarantined, their samples collected and all nucleic acid tests completed.
