5th China-Germany Forum on Cultural Education of Young People opens in Beijing

The fifth China-Germany Forum on Cultural Education of Young People kicked off in Beijing this Wednesday.
Around the theme of "cultural education and human resilience," professors and experts from the two countries had in-depth discussions via a video link for the German attendees who couldn't attend the forum in person due to the requirements of COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control.
Featuring four topics of individual psychological resilience, resilience of organizations and social systems, cultural education and resilience cultivation, as well as resilience cultivation of children and adolescents with special needs, the two-day forum served as a platform to explore how individuals, organizations and social systems with different cultural backgrounds could enhance resilience to cope with crises and to examine the significance, functions and approaches of cultural education in boosting resilience and promoting social solidarity while combating crises.
At the opening ceremony, Hang Yuanxiang, executive vice chairman of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), gave his thanks for the solidarity of all Chinese people; China had secured strategic achievements in COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control.
Hang added that since the COVID-19 outbreak, CSCLF, together with the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, had launched free online lectures to help students take care of their mental health through psychological intervention and counseling. CSCLF also offered online platforms for over 3000 young people from over 40 countries to communicate with and encourage one another amid the pandemic.
"Next, CSCLF is ready to work with Germany's Stiftung Mercator to make new contributions to youth affairs, cultural exchanges and friendly relations between the two countries," Hang said.
Annette Schavan, chairman for the German side of the Sino-German Dialogue Forum, commented that cultural education played an important role in cultivating the creativity of young people and strengthening their resilience to overcome difficulties.
Winfried Kneip, executive director of Stiftung Mercator, noted that the epidemic had taken a heavy toll on various fields around the world, with young people disproportionately affected, and therefore, it was of great significance to care about young people's physical and mental health as well as enhance their resilience to cope with the epidemic through cultural education. Winfried added that Stiftung Mercator was willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with CSCLF in youth affairs.
The forum this year was jointly hosted by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Stiftung Mercator.
