China's top legislature schedules standing committee session

The Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) will convene its 24th session from Dec. 22 to 26 in Beijing.

The decision was made on Friday at a meeting of the Council of Chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee, which was presided over by Li Zhanshu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.

Attendees of the meeting suggested that legislators review a draft amendment to the Criminal Law and draft amendments to the organic law of the NPC and the NPC's procedural rules.

The top legislature is also expected to deliberate draft revisions to the Law on Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency, the National Defense Law, the law on maritime traffic safety, the Military Service Law, and the law on military facilities protection.

Also on the suggested agenda are draft laws respectively on Yangtze River conservation, rural vitalization promotion, coast guard, the Hainan free trade port, preventing food waste, and fighting organized crimes, as well as on supervisory personnel, and on protecting the military personnel's status, rights and interests.

Draft documents on enhancing state assets management and establishing the Hainan free trade port's IPR court are also expected to be deliberated during the session.

A draft decision on convening the fourth annual session of the 13th NPC will also be reviewed.

The suggested agenda also includes a number of reports, including a report on the rectifications of the problems found in the execution of the 2019 central budget and other fiscal matters, a work report on poverty relief, and a report on the enforcement of the Anti-Unfair Competition Law.
