The National Cancer Center of China (NCC) announced on Saturday that China has further expanded its cancer registration system this year to cover over 598 million people, 140 million more than in 2019.

The registration system has 49,102 contributing institutions in 1,152 county-level areas across the country, according to an annual report released by the NCC at a meeting.

Addressing the meeting, NCC Director He Jie said a national central platform for cancer prevention and control has basically been completed, while a cancer prevention and control network has been established, along with an annual report mechanism for cancer registration.

China's five-year survival rate for cancer has increased to over 40 percent in 2020 from 30.9 percent 10 years ago, said the NCC report.
