Beijing's health authorities said Wednesday that the latest resurgence of COVID-19 in the city's Shunyi District originated from an imported asymptomatic case from Indonesia.

Epidemiologists have traced the source through nucleic acid tests, serum antibody tests, and gene sequencing analyses of the samples taken from the district's recent COVID-19 cases and environmental samples taken from their homes and workplaces, said Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the municipal center for disease control and prevention, at a press conference.

The source of infection is an Indonesian national who arrived in east China's Fujian Province from Indonesia on Nov. 26 and left Fujian for Beijing on Dec. 10 after testing negative for the novel coronavirus following a 14-day quarantine.

The 28-year-old man tested negative for COVID-19 in Beijing on Dec. 26, but the result turned positive two days later.

As of Tuesday, Shunyi District had 14 confirmed COVID-19 cases and one asymptomatic case, Pang said.
