Authorities in Beijing are calling for greater efforts in strengthening COVID-19 control measures and strictly monitoring the results of nucleic acid test of travelers from high and medium-risk areas, so as to contain transmission of the coronavirus.

Xu Hejian, a spokesperson for the Beijing municipal government, said at a press conference on Wednesday that the spread of the virus in Beijing is under control. However, the city is still facing pressure from increasing inbound cases and a resurgence in domestic cases.

Beijing will continue to strictly enforce health and monitoring rules to ensure a full and closed cycle of management of all inbound arrivals. The city will also strengthen the supervision of imported cold-chain goods.

Meanwhile, Beijing will continue to strengthen COVID-19 control measures in rural areas, for instance limit gatherings there, Xu said.

Xu also said that effective personal protection measures such as wearing masks and practicing social distancing should be maintained to better curb the spread of the virus.
