Beijing will focus on building a world-class industrial cluster in the city's Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA), a BDA official said Thursday.

With an area of 27.83 square kilometers, BDA is part of the high-end industrial area of China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

Wang Shaofeng, secretary of BDA's working committee, said efforts will be made to expedite the development of four pillar industries, including new generation information technology, advanced vehicle and new energy smart vehicle, biotechnology and health, and robots and smart manufacturing. He said the building of modern service industries, such as the high-end service industry and the technological and cultural industry, will also be accelerated. And the area's successful practice of developing digital economy will play a key role in building Beijing into a global model in the sector.

Wang said measures will be taken to expand opening-up, attract foreign investment, and step up outbound investment. The area is expected to be a good example of facilitating trade, investment, transportation, cross-border flow of capital, employment, as well as ensuring the safe and orderly flow of data.

Data shows that the area has already formulated 146 tasks and 379 innovation policies to support the building of the industrial cluster, including 153 industrial policies and 226 facilitation policies. In the fourth quarter of 2020, the number of newly registered enterprises increased by 25.52%. About 160 billion yuan was invested in more than 40 major projects, with foreign investment accounting for more than half of the total.

Over the next five years, the area will ensure that these tasks are carried out in a step-by-step and phased manner, so as to attract joint efforts from the enterprises in the area and talents at home and abroad to contribute to its development. A collaboration platform will also be set up to bolster cooperation between national economic development areas and promote high-quality development, Wang said.
