Beijing's Daxing district recently signed contracts on 10 cutting-edge industrial projects in the fields of computer technology, medicine and healthcare, hydrogen energy application, big data, and artificial intelligence. The projects' output value is expected to exceed 10 billion yuan (approximately $1.53 billion) in the next three years.

The move aims to further build Daxing's capacity as a travel hub thanks to its new airport as well as developing technologies related to the digital economy, biomedicine, and smart manufacturing. Meanwhile, Daxing will also contribute to Beijing's ambitions to construct its "two zones": the National Comprehensive Demonstration Zone for Expanding Opening-up in the Service Sector and the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ).

These recent projects will specifically focus on the development of onboard hydrogen supply equipment, solid-state batteries, civilian-use ultrasonic equipment, international schools, digital trade, as well as large-scale antigen manufacturing services, to name a few.

So far, Daxing district has hosted eight similar contract-signing events for a total of 122 projects signed. According to Daxing's quantified goals of constructing its "two zones," the next two to three years will see accelerated efforts to attract high-end market entities, implanting major functional projects, developing new business models, and improving key economic and trade indexes.

To better serve the construction of the "two zones," Daxing district has introduced a three-layered list management system that covers policies, target companies, and resources in the region.

The policy list contains 23 regulatory items and stipulates how existing strategies should be used to implement the development of cutting-edge industries by applying sci-tech achievement, boosting emerging finance, attracting high-level talents, and developing cultural and innovative industries. The list also lays the foundation for how Daxing will facilitate foreign investment, establish R&D headquarters, and develop aviation services.

In addition, some 162 world-leading companies have been listed as target investors for the region's future development plan.

The resources list also outlines Daxing's sufficient land resources for commercial purposes. According to preliminary research, Daxing's total construction area exceeds 23.85 million square meters, of which 10.98 million square meters of land is fit for development. Meanwhile, there remains a huge portion of rural collective land designated for business-related construction in the region.
