The construction of facilities in and around the Universal Beijing Resort in the city's Tongzhou district is almost complete in the lead up to the grand opening of the highly anticipated theme park.

Around 80% of the urban roads around the resort have finished construction, with 33 out of the planned 53 roads ready to open by the end of this month, and 95.1% of the underground utility tunnels in the resort have also been completed.

The 20 underground utility tunnels in the resort comprise the lifelines of urban operations - pipelines of water, electricity, fuel, communications, and other energies that keep a city on the go, said an official from the commission of housing and urban-rural development of Tongzhou district.

The official said the designers managed to better fit the underground system into the overall environment of the resort, and at the same time ensured its easy repair and maintenance.

The commission has established a special task force to monitor and provide service for infrastructure development in and around the resort to prepare for the opening of the theme park.
