The Luohu district government and the Business School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) signed a memorandum of cooperation on April 14.

Luohu Party chief Luo Yude, Liu Zhiyong, head of the Luohu government, Chan Kam-leung, managing vice-president of the CUHK, and Zhou Lin, dean of the CUHK Business School, took part in the ceremony.

Luohu is building its port economic belt, and a Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation platform. Last December, the governments of Shenzhen and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region agreed to extend the Hong Kong railway northward to connect with Luohu Port, and simplify the customs clearance and the inspection and quarantine procedures.

It is hoped that, in the future, it will take only half an hour to travel between Hong Kong and Luohu, making it more convenient for Hong Kong college graduates to work in Shenzhen.

The development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the deepening of cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong both raise the demands for talents. Hong Kong’s advanced higher education and research capacity make its cooperation with Shenzhen in education a win-win situation.

The signing of the memorandum represents a breakthrough for Luohu in higher education and a step forward in promoting the Shenzhen-Hong Kong port economic belt in Luohu.

The cooperation with CUHK will strengthen Luohu's education and research ability, promote integration of educational resources, and provide strong impetus for the building of Luohu as an all-embracing hub of the GBA.

Chan hoped the cooperation could promote the cultivation of higher-end talents on both sides, as well as the high-quality socioeconomic development of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Luo hoped the two sides could give full play to their respective advantages, and carry out more pragmatic cooperation and make Luohu a talent cultivation base, a platform for international academic studies and research exchanges, effectively providing talents in development of the GBA.
