E-mail China.org.cn, May 25, 2021The 2021 Science Popularization Fair opened in Beijing on May 23. During the event, a total of 11 municipal parks will launch over 40 featured science activities in five categories, namely, "Explore Animals," "Flora World," "Popular Science about Swifts," "Carving Beams and Painting Buildings," and "Love Nature."
As a sideline event of the ongoing National Science and Technology Week, the garden fair will be held on- and offline, and runs until May 30.
Beijing Zoo is the main venue for this year's science popularization-themed garden fair and is currently hosting an activity themed "Protecting birds, loving nature." As part of the activity, volunteers explain the life habits of birds including the crested ibis and red-crowned cranes to inspire children's curiosity and imagination regarding nature.
Meanwhile, there are also numerous displays showcasing the achievements of Beijing Zoo in ecological protection and wild animal feeding and management. In addition, children can enjoy several interactive activities such as finger painting of animals, fan painting of mandarin ducks, and animal knowledge quizzes.
The Summer Palace, Beihai Park, Zhongshan Park, Yuyuantan Park, the Chinese Garden Museum, and many others also feature exhibitions for the public science literacy event.
The Summer Palace plays an especially important role in Beijing's bird ecology, as every year between the end of March to the beginning of August it is home to thousands of Beijing swifts who return home to build nests and breed. From May 22 onwards, the palace will arrange activities to introduce Beijing swifts to visitors of the park and inform them how they too can better protect the capital's nature.
The Science Popularization Fair activities can be accessed online via the official Garden for Public Science Literacy's (Kepugongyuan in Chinese) public WeChat account.
