At 8 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2008, the Olympic flag was raised in China for the first time as the opening ceremony for the 2008 Summer Olympics commenced in Beijing. Since then, the country has seen a huge growth in the number of people taking part in sporting activities, as the legacy of the event lives on.
