Shou Xiaoli:

Ladies and gentlemen, good morning. Welcome to this meet-the-press event held by the Press Center for the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). It will be July 1 in two days, and we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. This 100-year journey has surged forward with great momentum, and the Party's original aspiration remains even firmer than ever. As the Party celebrates its centenary, the CPC Central Committee has decided to award a commemorative medal for "Glorious 50-Year Party Membership" to Party members who have been in the Party for more than 50 years and who have consistently performed well. Over 7.1 million veteran Party members have been awarded the medal. In addition, inspired by the Party's faith and guided by model Party members, a large number of comrades joined the Party this year. It is the generations of Party members who have passed on the traditions of the Party and practiced its original aspiration and mission that have maintained the vitality of the Party membership and kept the Party's cause vigorous and thriving.

We are very glad to have invited two Party members who have been awarded the "Glorious 50-Year Party Membership" medal and two newly recruited Party members to meet and have exchanges with you on the topic of "Passing on the Party Traditions, and Carrying Forward the Founding Mission." Now please allow me to introduce them one by one. They are: Mr. Zhao Pubo, chief welding engineer of China 19th Metallurgical Corporation; Mr. Sui Senfang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at the School of Life Sciences of Tsinghua University; Ms. Liu Jinhua, secretary of the 11th Party branch of the Department of Retired Officials at the General Office of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC); Mr. Long Bing, a self-employed truck driver from Cha'anpu town in Taoyuan county, Changde city, Hunan province. Next, let's invite them to introduce themselves one by one. I will give the floor to Mr. Zhao first.

Zhao Pubo:

Ms. Shou and friends from the media, good morning. I am Zhao Pubo from China Minmetals Corporation. I am 24 years old. I'm an ordinary welding technician and a new Party member. It is a great honor to be here today for this event. I feel a little bit nervous and very excited. I come from a small mountain village in Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, Sichuan province. At the age of 16, out of curiosity and a longing for welding sparks, I chose the profession of welding. The first time I put on a thick protective suit and the cool protective mask, I felt the hardship of welding, which is unimaginable to common people. The bouncing welding sparks can reach a temperature as high as several hundred or even over a thousand degrees Celsius, and can even burn my skin through the thick protective suit. These scars on my arms have marked my growth, but I have no regrets about my choices. The bright sparks and beautiful scars accompanied me to the highest podium of the 45th WorldSkills Competition. I realized my dream to be a champion and secured a third consecutive win for China in welding. Youth is supposed to be spent on hard work, and I aspire to be a highly-skilled inter-disciplinary professional of the new era, contribute my share to turning "Made in China" into "Perfectly Crafted in China," and win more honors for the Party and the country. Thank you.

Shou Xiaoli:

We need groups of craftsmen like Zhao to build a strong modern socialist country. We also need groups of young people to join the Party and infuse new vitality into it. Thank you, Mr. Zhao. Next, the floor goes to Mr. Sui.

Sui Senfang:

Friends from the media, good morning. I joined the Party in 1965, and have been a member of it for 55 years. I began to study in Tsinghua University in 1964, and became a teacher there upon graduation. As part of its efforts to further cultivate young teachers, the university sent me to Germany to study for a doctorate after China started its reform and opening up. I returned to the university after getting my PhD in 1988. So far, I have been working in the university for 50 years. I study life sciences, or to be more specific, protein structure, with cryo-electron microscopy. This technology helps to observe the structure of biological macromolecules and cells, and is already one of the most popular technologies in life sciences, playing a very important role in the searching for the origin of life, precision medicine, and drug development. With some efforts and outcomes in protein structure study with cryo-electron microscopy, I was elected as academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. Thank you.

Shou Xiaoli:

Chinese scientists demonstrate their perseverance through making pioneering efforts, overcoming successive difficulties, and bravely scaling new heights. This also characterizes the efforts of the Party members to fulfill the original aspiration and the founding mission of the Party. Thank you, Mr. Sui. Now let's invite Ms. Liu to introduce herself.

Liu Jinhua:

Ms. Shou and friends from the media, good morning. I am Liu Jinhua, 79, and have been a Party member for 52 years. I worked in the Great Hall of the People before retirement, serving the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries and the political activities of the Party and the nation. After retirement, I began working as secretary of the 11th Party branch of the Department of Retired Officials at the General Office of the NPC Standing Committee, serving retired officials. I was born in the old society, and did not go to school and get a job until the people achieved liberation under the leadership of the Party. I was selected and transferred to work in the Great Hall of the People by chance in 1960, and had worked there until retirement. I witnessed the dedication of the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries to the people during my time there. Inspired by their fearless spirit, I did not flinch at hardships or heavy tasks, never mind personal gains and losses at work, and have developed a firm faith of remaining committed to the original aspiration and following the Party. I am proud to have worked in the Great Hall of the People, and will carry forward its spirit of loyalty and dedication, while following the Party closely even though I have retired. Thank you.

Shou Xiaoli:

Ms. Liu follows the Party closely even though she has retired, and as a veteran Party member and retired official, she stays true to the original aspiration of serving the people at an ordinary post. Next, let's invite Mr. Long to introduce himself.

Long Bing:

Ms. Shou and friends from the media, good morning. I am Long Bing, 36, a new Party member from Cha'anpu town in Taoyuan county, Changde city, Hunan province. I chose my career as a truck driver after retiring from the military in 2007. When the COVID-19 outbreak struck Wuhan at the beginning of 2020, relief supplies could hardly reach there. After getting to know that my hometown, Changde, had lots of supplies to be transported to Wuhan, I communicated with relevant government departments about my willingness to help. I then lived and ate in the truck for 32 days, making 11 round trips to Wuhan and other places to deliver vegetables, rice, milk and other supplies, totaling more than 300 metric tons and travelling a total of 12,000 kilometers.

I had the honor to participate as a representative of truck drivers at a symposium with community-level representatives held during General Secretary Xi Jinping's visit to Hunan last September. I was nervous and excited at that time, for I had never thought to be able to sit with General Secretary Xi face to face. General Secretary Xi said that there are no born heroes, only brave mortals. The words inspired me a lot. I had the honor to join the Party in June this year. As a new Party member, I always keep in mind General Secretary Xi's words, and will always work on the front line no matter at what post I am, as long as the Party and the people need me.

Shou Xiaoli:

The members of the CPC are exactly those who live up to the standards of their identity in everyday life, bravely stand up at crucial moments, and selflessly make sacrifices in moments of crisis. Long Bing has demonstrated his demeanor in harm's way, and withstood the tests in the fight against the epidemic.

Thank for your introduction. We can see that they come from different industries and fields, and include both veteran and new Party members. I believe their stories of staying committed to the Party's original aspiration and founding mission are inspiring. Next, we will move on to the Q&A session. Friends from the media, please identify your news outlets before asking questions. Now, the floor is open to questions.
