Major traffic accidents down 24 percent in China last year

China saw the number of major traffic accidents causing three to 10 deaths drop by 24 percent year on year in 2020, according to an annual report made public on Friday.

The report on China's rule of law in 2020 released by the China Law Society elaborates on the country's progress on legislation, social stability and security, law-based administration and legal services.

The National People's Congress and its Standing Committee enacted nine laws, revised 12 laws and adopted 12 decisions on legal and other major issues, the report states.

Chinese courts at all levels sentenced around 1.53 million criminals, while procuratorates handled a total of 3.01 million cases of various types, down 19.4 percent compared to the previous year, according to the report.

The year 2020 also witnessed 1.4 million legal aid cases dealt with and 566,000 brick-and-mortar public legal-service platforms built across the country.
