Beijing's eastern Chaoyang district will open a cruise tour at a section on the Liangma River this Saturday.

The 45-minute cruise tour starts from the Yansha Bridge all the way to Chaoyang Park, passing through landmarks such as shopping center Solana and the China-Japan Youth Exchange Center.

Night cruises are also available and include a light show introducing the history of the Liangma River as well as the Grand Canal Cultural Belt.

The project employs a public-private partnership (PPP) model, in which the local government works with culture and tourism companies with the latter responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of the cruise tour.

The project uses energy-saving light sources as well as low-noise electric boats.

"As part of Beijing's efforts to build itself into a consumption center, the cruise tour project will diversify people's leisure activities and spurs the nighttime economy," said a person in charge of the project at the Chaoyang district government.
