Beijing has launched the "Healthy Beijing Week," starting today to August 1. The Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control yesterday released its Monitoring and Evaluation Report for the 2020 Healthy Beijing Action, indicating that of the 58 Healthy China Action assessments and monitoring indicators carried out by the Office of the Healthy China Action Promotional Committee, 51 attained the national target for 2022. This demonstrates how the health of the city's residents continues to improve.

In 2020, the average life expectancy of Beijing residents reached 82.43 years, while infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate stood at 1.98 per 1,000 and 4.98 per 100,000, respectively. Additionally, residents' health literacy level reached 36.4%, the smoking rate among adults dropped to 20.3%, and the proportion of people who regularly participated in physical exercise reached 50.2%.

Since the launch of the Healthy China initiative, Beijing has attached great importance to it, and the policy and legal systems associated with the drive have been continuously improved. An inter-departmental action mechanism was also established. As such, the health of residents has continued to improve, providing a guarantee for the capital's epidemic prevention and control work, as well as the sound development of its healthcare undertakings.

The activities for this year's "Healthy Beijing Week" will be carried out mainly online. During the week, a series of activities such as a Learn to Cook Healthy Food initiative and a summer mosquito and fly control campaign will be promoted. The event also features online competitions that promote healthy living.
