Hebei bus accident death toll rises to 13

The death toll of a bus accident in north China's Hebei Province has risen to 13 as of 7 p.m. Monday, said the on-site resue headquarters.

A shuttle bus carrying 51 people fell from a bridge into the Hutuo River in Pingshan County in the provincial capital of Shijiazhuang at approximately 7 a.m. Monday, the provincial emergency management department said. The bus belongs to the steel company Jingye Group.

As of 7 p.m., 50 people have been pulled from the river, 13 of whom died after emergency medical treatment failed. One remains missing.

The bus driver is now in custody, and medical response efforts and an investigation into the accident are underway. All-out efforts are being made to rescue the remaining missing passenger.
