Shanghai reported a locally transmitted asymptomatic COVID-19 case on Saturday, a close contact of the third locally transmitted confirmed case reported on Thursday, the municipal government announced early Sunday.

Altogether three confirmed local cases were reported on Thursday. They were all in their early 30s, women, and friends. They were receiving treatment and under stable health conditions. No new confirmed case was reported afterward.

The asymptomatic case, aged 28, was found during hotel quarantine. Altogether, 30 of the case's close contacts had been traced in the city and put under hotel quarantine by 8 am Sunday.

Also by this time, the city's disease control workers had tracked down 214 close contacts, 1,163 secondary close contacts, and more than 112,600 related individuals of the three confirmed cases reported on Thursday. All of their nucleic acid test results had returned negative except the asymptomatic case diagnosed on Saturday.

At least nine hospitals in the city resumed medical service on Saturday after being subject to closed-loop management for COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control since Friday or Saturday.

All of these medical institutions, including the city's major hospitals, such as Ruijin, Zhongshan, Xinhua, and No 6, have resumed outpatient and emergency treatment. Nucleic acid test service and outpatient service were provided extra on Sunday.

The Shanghai Municipal Health Commission explained that more than 20 medical institutions suspended service since Friday and Saturday because the three confirmed cases have hundreds of close contacts, and some of them had been to hospitals for medical treatment either for themselves or to accompany family members.

According to national protocol, such public venues need to undergo a '2 plus 12' management, which means the hospitals must be subject to two days of closed-loop management with all individuals inside undergoing nucleic acid test twice, 24 hours apart, and all the individuals involved must proceed with 12 days of self-health monitoring.
