As of Wednesday, 3.01 million senior citizens (60 years and over) in Beijing had been vaccinated against COVID-19, with the eldest to receive the shots being 106 years of age, according to the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

The vaccination program for senior citizens has been progressing stably, and vaccination sites have opened fast channels for senior citizens across the city, according to the center.

Senior citizens are generally believed to be more vulnerable to COVID-19 with higher risks of becoming severely ill if infected. Experts have called for senior people to be fully vaccinated and receive a booster shot six months after receiving the second dose.

As of Tuesday, more than 22 million people in Beijing had been vaccinated, according to the city's disease prevention and control center.
