Jimmy Lai Chee-ying, an instigator of Hong Kong riots, was sentenced to 13-month imprisonment on Monday for taking part in an unauthorized assembly in Hong Kong's Victoria Park last year.

Seven other defendants, Chow Hang-tung, Gwyneth Ho, Lee Cheuk-yan, Tsoi Yiu-cheong, Leung Yiu-chung, Leung Kam-wai and Wu Chi-wai were sentenced to four and a half to 14 months in jail by the District Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

The unauthorized assembly case involves a total of 26 defendants, including Lai, Albert Ho Chun-yan and Joshua Wong. So far 24 people have pleaded guilty or been sentenced.

Nathan Law Kwun-chung and Sunny Cheung Kwan-yang, who have absconded from Hong Kong, were also involved in the case. The court has issued arrest warrants for them.

According to the Law of the HKSAR, if Lai and other defendants feel aggrieved by the judgement, they can apply for an appeal.
