The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China has issued a set of directions to augment the country's protection of the Yellow River basin with legal measures.

Criminal activities that damage the safety, environment and resources of the basin ought to be severely punished in accordance with the law, said the SPP in the directions, adding that there should be no concession in this regard and the authority of the legal system must be upheld.

According to the directions, the SPP will push forward a campaign jointly conducted with the Ministry of Water Resources, so as to continue rectifying the wrongdoings in the management and protection of lakes and rivers in the basin.

When handling lawsuits or disputes regarding the basin, procuratorial organs nationwide should examine the implementation of their verdicts and proposals, so as to better protect the public interests, noted the SPP.
