The green travel campaign launched by Beijing's Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) app has helped to reduce nearly 100,000 metric tons of carbon emissions, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport.

In September 2020, the app as China's first green transportation integrated service platform launched an incentive mechanism, through which users could exchange their green travel miles for bus cards, coupons, and other benefits. Since then, over 1 million users have participated in this mechanism and helped to reduce nearly 100,000 metric tons of carbon emissions, the transportation authority said.

The MaaS app integrates all modes of transport, and provides smart travel services and travel information.

During the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, the platform provided a series of customized services including navigation for Winter Olympic lanes, parking guidance, travel information, and barrier free travel services.

Meanwhile, these activities has encouraged 21% of people whose main commute method is cars to take part in green travel modes, and greatly boosted people's willingness to go green, the authority added.

AMap, one of the app's partners, traded 24,500 metric tons of carbon emissions in 2021, and its transaction values were used to award green travel users with coupons and other forms of benefits.
