A total of 18 new high schools opened in September this year in Shenzhen when the new semester kicked off, providing 43,000 places.

Compared with last year, the city has increased the number of places in public schools and kindergartens by 107,400 by establishing new schools and expanding old ones.

As a megacity whose population grows by nearly half a million a year, Shenzhen pays special attention to increasing quality education resources to ensure all schooling-aged children can secure their seats in public schools and preschool children enter public or private kindergartens.

The city plans to increase the number of places in public schools by 740,000 by 2025 from 2020, 145,000 in kindergartens and 97,000 in high schools.

Meanwhile, Shenzhen also attaches great significance to attracting good teachers from around the country, and supporting the development of young teachers. In May this year, 23,601 candidates applied to compete for 817 posts in schools in Shenzhen.
