A cross-Strait forum on technology development was held in Beijing and Taiwan simultaneously via video link on Sept. 19.

Officials who attended the opening ceremony in Beijing included the Cross Strait CEO Summit mainland Chairman Guo Jinlong; Vice Chairman Zhang Ping; Liu Jieyi, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council; and Chen Jining, deputy secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and mayor.

Liu said in his speech that the forum serves as an important platform for cross-Strait cooperation and has helped promote business exchange activities across both sides of the Strait over the past 25 years. He said the forum was a significant step forward and demonstrated how cross-Strait cooperation could be further advanced.

Liu lauded Beijing's advantages in economy, science and technology, finance, culture and education and said that the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council would continue to encourage cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation and help Taiwan enterprises to invest in Beijing.

Chen pledged that Beijing would thoroughly implement the decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, deepen pragmatic cooperation with the island of Taiwan, and strengthen economic, trade, scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges.

He said Beijing would optimize the services for Taiwan enterprises with favorable policies. Chen also called on promoting cross-Strait youth exchanges, strengthening communication in cultural and other fields, and building an all-around exchange and cooperation pattern.

Themed "Exploring new paths, grounding in the new development stage, and sharing new achievements," the forum is being hosted in venues in Beijing and Taiwan, respectively. During the two-day forum, there will be seminars on cross-Strait industrial carbon reduction cooperation, emerging industry cooperation, and financial cooperation.
