Four new road projects in Beijing's sub-center in Tongzhou district have been recently approved by the city's municipal development and reform commission.
The roads to receive new paving are Songzhuang Cultural District West Road, Songzhuang Cultural District South Street, Yunqiao East Road, and Changhe East Road, all of which are arteries of the sub-center's transportation network.
The road improvements will benefit people commuting to and from nearby schools, hospitals, and residence communities, including the Tongzhou campus of Renmin University of China, the Tongzhou branch of Anzhen Hospital, and the Central Green Forest Park.
"We will strive to ensure convenience and safety in the designing and construction process to meet the specific demands of these areas," said a person in charge of the projects.
The construction work will follow environmental protection principles, emphasize the recycling of building wastes, implement the sponge city concept, and employ noise reduction road surface solutions to minimize the impact on nearby communities.
In 2020, the road density in the city's sub-center reached 4.01 kilometers per square kilometer. The number is expected to increase to 5 kilometers per square kilometer by 2025.
