Beijing plans to renovate old subway stations to increase transfer and traffic convenience, improve general facilities and safety against waterlogging, and upgrade surrounding landscape and amenities.

Recently, the city's development and reform authority approved the plan of renovating Caishikou, Beihai North, and Chongwenmen stations. All three projects are expected to start next year.

This will be the first time for Beijing to combine subway station innovation with urban renewal.

Preparation is now underway at Chaoyangmen subway station, and more old stations will be included in the urban renewal plan in the future, municipal officials said.
