Following several universities in Beijing, Peking University established an institute for carbon neutrality on Wednesday, aiming to contribute more talent and resources to China's commitment to green development.

The zero-emission technologies developed by Peking University were applied to the National Speed Skating Oval during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. For the next step, the institute will conduct further studies in various areas such as climate change and carbon cycle, carbon neutrality, synergistic effect of climate and the environment, as well as climate legislation and global climate governance. To better serve the country's needs and resolutions for carbon goals, the institute strives to make breakthroughs in major technologies.

As part of the country's efforts to achieve the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, a host of Beijing universities, including Tsinghua University and Beijing University of Technology, have taken the lead in talent cultivation for green development.
