The Zhongguancun Medical Device Park, located in Beijing's Daxing district, is home to nearly 100 high-tech enterprises and has produced numerous pioneering products, both domestically and globally, since its establishment in 2017, generating an annual output value of over 5 billion yuan ($726.61 million).

These innovative products, such as the AI sperm selection workstation and minimally invasive surgical techniques for sealing off the left atrial appendage, possess proprietary intellectual property rights and have invigorated the city's booming healthcare sector.

To create a robust ecosystem for industrial clusters, the park offers enterprises comprehensive, community-based services throughout their entire innovation process, including original innovation, animal testing, medicine processing, and storage and logistics.

With the anticipated opening of its phase II facilities in the second half of 2023, the park is set to further enhance the nation's capabilities in high-end medical devices involving traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) diagnosis and treatment, tissue regeneration materials, molecular diagnostic instruments, artificial organs, and life support equipment.

Over the years, Beijing has made significant strides in high-end medical devices, leveraging the potential of AI and new materials to its advantage. In 2022, the city took the lead nationally by obtaining the highest number of innovative medical devices and AI medical equipment with Class III licenses approved for listing.

According to the city's latest action plan, by 2023, Beijing's pharmaceutical and healthcare industry aims to attract at least 10,000 innovative talents, develop up to three benchmark companies for digital healthcare, establish two research-oriented hospitals, and submit 90 listing applications for innovative drugs and medical devices.
