The documentary "Beijing Central Axis," which aims to tell the stories of the cultural and architecture backbone of the Chinese capital to a global audience, was released Wednesday.

As part of the city's efforts to apply for the UNESCO World Heritage status for the Central Axis, the three-episode documentary features over 20 individuals from all walks of life who either study or live along the cultural landmark, sharing their stories and exploring the history and evolution of the axis.

The documentary delves into stories of the Central Axis and showcases Chinese culture to the world, which will promote cultural exchange and enhance mutual trust and understanding among Chinese people and people from the rest of world, said Xu Hejian, director of the Information Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality.

Filming and launching the documentary helps engage the public in the work of protecting Beijing Central Axis, said Chen Mingjie, director general of the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau. The documentary is conducive to improving public understanding of the Central Axis and inheriting fine traditional culture, Chen said.

Produced by the Information Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, the documentary will be aired on Beijing Radio and Television Station, CGTN, and multiple online platforms from Thursday evening.
